After going through a few design iterations, the interns were finally ready to bring their visions to life. Plants were donated and are mostly California native plants or plants that are adapted to grow in the site's conditions.
First the coordinators gave a demonstration on how to lay out plants to proper spacing. Then interns freely arranged plants on the site to reflect their previous designs and given inventory. After a few edits by the coordinators, they were ready to get planting.
The coordinators went through the planting demonstration, from clearing the area, to prepping the plant, to mulching and creating water rings. Finally, the interns went to work, completely planting and mulching the site by the end of the work session.
Plenty of plants were left over for future projects at MME. Overall, this first planting was a great start to new collaboration between Project Invigorate and MME.
