Taking the skills and brainstormed ideas home, the interns split into small groups to create initial designs for the first site. They were tasked to create a scale plan, a section cut, and a potential plant list.

After talking through all the designs, the groups gave feedback and suggestions on how to improve each design. Although we did not use a single design for the final planting, many of the plants we used were similar.

The site is unique because of its long and narrow footprint, with most of the site entirely in the shade because it is right up against a side of a building. Most of the existing vegetation could be removed, but a few of the larger shade trees and bushes had to stay. Lastly, there is a larger HVAC unit on the outside of the building, which directly underneath the grade increases greatly leading to a large drain. Interns had to keep in mind the presence of school children.
