It's finally the beginning of winter quarter, and we had some exciting plans for the interns. Judy was able to block off four more sites at MME for us to redesign and invigorate!
The first site would be in the center of the parking lot surrounding the library book drop-off. The second site would be the grass lawn are flanking the flag pole. The third site would be the drainage area near the outdoor classroom The fourth site would be the area right in front of the entrance sign.
Project Invigorate was also fortunate enough to gain interns from the BOG. We would be giving them the structure of the internship while they work independently on their site on the UC Davis campus.
We spent the meeting in small groups, that the interns had chosen during Winter Break, to do site analysis. Over the next two weeks, the interns would independently be doing site analysis maps, that would eventually inform initial ideas for design.
Because of the nature of the second site as a lawn area, a more sustainable meadow was kept in mind. Along those lines, the drainage area would be the perfect location for a bioswale. These are two options of more ecologically-beneficial landscapes that children could experience as part of their young education.
